Clashes between police and demonstrators turned violent in Munuwa VDC-6 near Tikapur of Kailali leading to the deaths of over dozen persons including a SSP and Inspector of Nepal Police.
The clashes took a violent turn after the demonstrators numbering 8-10 thousand came out on the streets with tradistional weapons as knives, axe, among others.
According to a highly placed security source, SSP Laxman Neupane, Inspectors Balram Bista and Keshav Bohora were killed by the demonstrators using home-made weapons.
Likewise, according to a police official present in the incident site, bodyguard of SSP Neupane, who is yet to be identified, was also killed during the demonstrators. Another police constable Lokendra Chand was also killed.
Likewise, police source stated constable Ram Bihari Chaudhary and Lalit Saud were also killed. But the local administration has not confirmed the deaths.
Khadka said some security personnel were killed by setting on fire by the demonstrators.
According to journalist Deepak Upadhyay, at least 30 police personnel were injured. The injured are receiving treatment in Tikapur Hospital. Some police have gone out of contact.
Details about the deaths and injuries from the demonstrators's side is yet emerge.
Meanwhile, Nepal Army's helicopter has flown to Tikapur from Kathmandu to airlift the injured.
Clashes ensued between police and demonstrators when the latter attempted to break the prohibitory order imposed by the local administration since the last four days. Prohibitory order was imposed from 11 am to 5 pm.
